At Traptic, we build farming robots. We are a venture-backed Bay Area startup that is saving US fruit and vegetable growers from a critical labor shortage. We deploy robotics, computer vision, and custom graspers in a novel machine that will harvest delicate crops quickly, cost effectively and at extremely high quality. Software Engineer - Perception

Responsibilities

  • Develop full-stack software that runs farm robots
  • Add functionality to understand plant structure and compute optimal approach paths based on that structure
  • Improve accuracy, speed, and precision of neural network that detects ripe strawberries
  • Improve accuracy of vision software that detects berry position despite occlusions, sensor noise and incomplete scene data
  • Detect and compensate for motion of robot relative to ground to enable picking while moving
  • Analyze current sensor suite and determine which sensors to add or change
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers during each phase of the development process
  • Travel to muddy farms to test your software

Required

  • M.S. with focus on robotics (or equivalent experience) 
  • Expertise in Perception, Computer Vision and Machine Learning
  • Proficiency in C++
  • Experience working with physical systems (not pure simulation)
  • Live in Bay Area (relocation assistance available)

Preferred

  • Proficiency in Python
  • Experience with a wide variety of sensors
  • Deep learning expertise
  • Basic controls knowledge
     

Software Engineer - Computer Vision

Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Design and build packing system for closing, moving, and stacking clamshells of strawberries
  • Develop large frame and suspension system for 3,000lb machine
  • Optimize custom gripper for robustness and manufacturability
  • Build realistic lab testing environment to support hardware and software development
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers during each phase of the development process
  • Travel to muddy farms to test your hardware

Required

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience) 
  • 2-5 years industry experience
  • Proficiency with ME CAD tools
  • Expertise with simulation and analysis
  • Knowledge of manufacturing
  • Experience designing parts that got manufactured
  • Live in Bay Area (relocation assistance available)

Preferred

  • Mechatronics expertise
  • Experience designing larger parts (>1kg)
  • Experience with industrial products (i.e. non-consumer)

Mechanical Engineer - Intern
